My latest personal project is called BlogRelief.com - the idea is that the website will actively and passively generate money for various charities.
I started this project earlier in the year and I have contributed to it in my spare time. I really hope that it will go live this side of Christmas. There hasn't been much interest in it yet though :(
Its main features are:
- Blog Aggregation
- Blog Categorisation
- Blog Tags - for further categorisation of indiviual blog entries
A screenshot of some of the main functionality (which isn't available to everyone quite yet :( ):

Why do I think it will generate money for charity.
- Each blog will be manually reviewed - in other words, we are looking for quality blogs (well lets face it, most people stop contributing to their blog just as quick as they start them!). I want to keep the quality of the blogs as high as possible. I will ask for a donation from each person/business that submits a blog and every 12 months there after. Each blog will be given a star rating for the amount they have donated - bronze to platinum. There will be feature benefits for having a platinum rated blog rather than a bronze rated blog. A donation will be requested every 6 or 12 months.
- Our aim is to increase the readership for every blogger that donates to BlogRelief.com - this makes it worth while for bloggers to join BlogRelief.com
- Passive revenue streams via google ads, and other affiliate based advertising shall be used.
- Competitions - Bloggers can enter competitions - again, a small donation will be expected - People who enter their blogs in a competition can expect to get more traffic because visitors will go to their blogs to review them in order to pick a winner.
- Sponsorship - I am hoping that some large businesses will sponsor BlogRelief.com - this will help with support and mainteance and also help us to build version 2. Sponsorship will also be used for advertising and marketing.
- Viral Marketing - Each blogger will be asked to put a link back to BlogRelief.com - helping to generate more traffic. Also we are hoping that each charity we help will also advertise BlogRelief to their customer base via their charity newsletters.
