This morning it was cold (about -2) and the lake was frozen. Apparently the fire brigade were called out last week because a Dog broke through the ice and needed rescuing
There were quite a few other people out and about, walking their dogs - but I was out and about determined to practice taking a few shots with my new camera. I was practicing taking photos on manual mode, and not worrying too much about the subject matter. I am new to photography and learning more about theory at the moment, rather than training my eye on what makes a great photo - I hope that comes later :)
A couple of photos I thought I would share - this one to prove that the lake was frozen. I was trying to get near and far detail, so it was taken with F22, 1/30 Exposure. It looked better through the view finder though!

I then walked into the woods and found this strange looking tree that has a sort of bird beak:

I wanted the background to be blurry - so this was taken with F2.8, 1/60 sec exposure @ 200mm.
As photography is my new hobby, I am going to start exploring different parts of the Colchester area (within about 10 miles) to try and get some good photos. I am interested if anyone can recommend their favourite scenic parts of this area.
